Steelers demote Ike Taylor
Owning up to a promise to shake things up after the Steelers’ 2-6 start, coach Bill Cowher has demoted the team’s top CB Ike Taylor to dime coverage situations. Last week, Taylor was pretty much owned by Javon Walker, who racked up 134 yards and 2 TDs on him. Taylor has vowed to heed Cowher’s advice to “fight (his) way out of it.”
Taylor isn’t the only Steeler who has been disappointing, but someone needed to be made an example of, and Cowher wasn’t likely to relegate Ben Roethlisberger to waterboy status. However, Roethlisberger would be wise to sit up and take notice, and maybe as soon as he is able to remember his name, find the playbook that bears it and get studying.
