Mike Williams is skating on thin ice

Anyone see what Mike Williams did in the Lions 21-3 preseason loss to the Raiders Friday night? No? That’s because he didn’t play - at all. Lions coach Rod Marinelli kept Mike on the sidelines, helmet in hand, the entire game. He didn’t even get a single play. Why? “Guys earn their time in practice,” says Marinelli. And when asked to elaborate, coach said, “I’ll just leave it at that.” Hmm.
Not only that, but in the first two preseason games he didn’t get any time in the first half, and had just one reception in the second half. Rumors are circulating that he might be battling former #2 pick Charles Rogers for the last WR roster spot. And then of course there were the unconfirmed rumors that he had been fined large amounts of money going back to last year for being out of shape and overweight. They aren’t going to switch him to the offensive line, so if he doesn’t shape up (in every sense of the word) he’s about to have a lot more in common with fellow attempted-early-draftee-and-year-of-eligibility-loser Maurice Clarett.
