Lions release Az Hakim again

Az Hakim

The Detroit Lions have released Az Hakim for the second time in his career. Noted as a “football decision” by Lions president Matt Millen, the unexpected move follows the Lions’ bye week. Hakim was re-signed after week one and was third on the team in catches. He also played for Detroit from 2002-04.

So Hakim had come out of retirement to play for the hapless Lions, and this is how they thank him. It’s just the latest in a line of bizarre handlings of the wide receivers corps…this season they have released former #1 pick Charles Rogers, kept former #1 pick Mike Williams out of all but a handful of plays, and released a promising receiver in Shaun Bodiford. It’s almost as if Matt Millen has never run a football team before and has no idea what he’s doing.
