Jerry Rice will retire with the 49ers

Jerry Rice and the 49ers appear close to completing plans that would allow the receiving great to return to the team for a day and formally retire as a 49er, team officials said Friday.
A date for Rice’s symbolic one-day signing hasn’t been chosen, though the sides are looking at holding the ceremony during the week of Aug. 20.
Rice became the NFL’s all-time leading receiver during a 20-year career. He spent the first 16 years with the 49ers, helping the team win three of its five Super Bowls. Rice finished his career with the Raiders and Seattle, retiring a year ago after trying out for the Denver Broncos.
“Everyone wants Jerry to retire as a 49er — the team, the fans and Jerry,'’ said club spokesman Aaron Salkin. “We’ve just got to work out the logistics.'’
Everyone wants to remeber Jerry Rice as a 49er…no one wants to remember him as a contestant on “Dancing With The Stars.”
