David Carr could be the next Chris Weinke

David Carr

No one really expected David Carr to accomplish much with the Houston Texans, but few might have guessed that after five years he would be relegated to holding Chris Weinke’s old clipboard. It’s a shame, really - Carr never had much to work with and played behind an offensive line which had more holes in it than a Cincinnati Bengals shooting victim.

Interestingly, signing Carr means that the Panthers now have the top two picks of the 2002 draft on their roster. If the team waterboy quits anytime soon, Joey Harrington could make it a three-of-a-kind.

I think there may be more to this than David Carr is done. There has been talk of the Panthers wanting someone to push Jake D. for the job since the end of last season. I’m not saysing they are going to announce an open competition. I’m wondering what Carr may have been told in interviews that led him to take a “backup” job when possible starting gigs where out there with Miami and Cleveland. John Fox’s job could be on the line this year and if it comes to it you may see Carr under center if they need a new spark.
