Buccaneers release Chris Simms’ spleen

Chris Simms

Chris Simms was taken to the hospital following today’s 26-24 loss to Carolina in which his spleen was ruptured. Simms took several hard hits in the game and it is believed that the injury occured in the second quarter. He actually left the game due to “cramping” at the end of the third quarter but later returned. His spleen was removed and he is expected to miss at least 2-3 months.

The Bucs have two other QBs on the roster - Tim Rattay and rookie Bruce Gradkowski, who filled in when Simms left during the game. Jeff George was reportedly seen lurking in the area, repeatedly clearing his throat and arching his eyebrows suggestively.

Simms is expected to make a full recovery, but NFL quarterbacks will be well-advised that, when facing the Panthers, to leave as many body parts in the locker room as is possible.
