Wallace leaving Detroit would lead to roster overhaul

Ben WallaceThe Dirt: Detroit Pistons President Joe Dumars has recently reiterated his intention to keep the team’s top 6 players and has no plans for a roster overhaul. However, he added:

“The only way this team makes any drastic changes is if Ben doesn’t re-sign,” Dumars said. “But my intention is to have the top six back.”

The Spin: Much debate has been made over whether or not a player like Ben Wallace deserves a max contract, and this article says it would be unlikely that the Pistons would offer one, instead likely offering around $10 million and 4 years. Wallace is considered the face of the franchise, but at 32 is unlikely to get any max contract offers, even from the Bulls, who are rumored to be very interested in his services. Dumars also claimed that when he asked Wallace how he should handle new agent Arn Tellem, to which Wallace replied, “Just get it done as quickly as possible.” It doesn’t appear likely that Ben Wallace will be playing anywhere other than Detroit next season.
