Jalen Rose too expensive for Knicks

Jalen Rose

The New York Knicks have cleared a little of their cluttered backcourt by cutting vet Jalen Rose today.

Rose scored 12.7 PPG last year and was scheduled to make $16.9 million next season. It was a remarkable moment of clarity for a team that signed Jerome James (a career 4.6 PPG and 3.3 RPG player) to a $30 million contract, then turned around and spent about the same on Jared Jefferies, whose numbers are barely better (6.4 PPG, 4.69 RPG).

However, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they are spending the $16.9 million on an Oliver Miller comeback bid.

I wouldn’t call it clarity just continued stupidity. If the Pistons are serious about another run this year they need to sign Rose immediately!

I don’t think it’s stupid - it’s making the best out of a bad situation. Talent-wise they have no business cutting him, but the fact is he’s old and too expensive, and they have plenty of younger guys in the backcourt to develope seeing as how that’s the direction they’ve already decided to take this team. Don’t get me wrong aI’m a big fan of Jalen Rose, but I think the Knicks did what they had to do.
