Randy Johnson suspended 5 games

Randy JohnsonThe Dirt:

Yankees pitcher Randy Johnson was suspended five games by the commissioner’s office Thursday for intentionally throwing at Cleveland’s Eduardo Perez the night before.

New York manager Joe Torre was suspended for one game. Unless Johnson appeals, both penalties are scheduled to begin Friday night, when the Yankees open an interleague series in Washington.

The Spin: Johnson’s great season just keeps getting better. Things might not be going so good for him, but at least he still has his nickname. Most guys would kill to be known as “The Big Unit.”
