Orioles have “no interest” in trading Miguel Tejada

Miguel TejadaThe Dirt:

Amid reports that Miguel Tejada could be headed out of town, the man who signed the shortstop to a $72 million deal before the 2004 season said the All-Star is not going anywhere.

“The Orioles have no interest in trading Miguel Tejada ,” said Orioles principal owner Peter Angelos. “He is an exciting and exceptional athlete and a great baseball player.”

The Spin: Tejada has been struggling since, oh, about the time his name came up in connection with Rafael Palmeiro’s steroid controversy. Huh. Go figure.

Baltimore has said that no one on their roster is untradable, but, “We have not made one phone call about him,” according to team VP Mike Flanagan. So it’s not exactly true that there is “no interest,” because by saying that they are essentially confirming that there could be interest in trading Tejada, arguably their best player despite his current slump. They are probably just waiting for Kevin McHale to make another of his amazing trade proposals.
