Miracle Red Sox win two in a row

David Ortiz & Manny Ramirez

After a solid month of just about the worst luck a team not named “Chicago Cubs” could have, including getting swept by the Yankees, Mariners, and A’s in a stretch where they had lost 11 of 13 games and pretty much lost hope of making the playoffs, the Red Sox have won - get this - two games in a row.

Normally this is non-news, but the Sox had been sucking it up so bad that this can’t be anything but good news. Sure, David Ortiz missed an entire West Coast swing with heart problems, pitcher John Lester has been out with lymphoma, Wily Mo Pena has been suffering from a stupid name sore wrist, Coco Crisp was suffering from an injured shoulder, and Fragile Manny Ramirez’s glass knee has been itchy (or something). But back to back wins - this means something. Curse of the Bambino - pshaw. They’re back, baby. Just don’t tell them that they’ve got a set with the defending champion White Sox coming up, followed by 3 with the Royals, who swept them a month ago despite being so bad that the entire organization needs to be sent down to AA Wichita. Don’t tell them now - they’re almost on a win streak.
