Mets want to trade for Shawn Green

Shawn Green

The Mets are considering the possibility of trading for Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Shawn Green, according to reports in the East Valley (Ariz.) Tribune and MLB.com.

There are “strong indications” the Diamondbacks are interested in asking Green to waive his no-trade clause so they can trade him to the Mets, according to the East Valley Tribune.

MLB.com reported that when the Mets placed Cliff Floyd on the 15-day disabled list last week, the Diamondbacks contacted the Mets to renew talks about Green. If Floyd, bothered by Achilles’ tendinitis, shows improvement, the Mets might decide against making a trade that would probably cost them young prospects and a contract that guarantees Green $9.5 million in 2007 and a $2 million buyout or $10 million for 2008. The Mets would want Arizona to pick up part of the contract.

Hopefully Mel Gibson isn’t a big Mets fan…
