Manny Ramirez won’t play in All-Star Game
The Dirt:
Manny Ramirez won’t play in next week’s All-Star Game because of a sore knee, his manager told reporters Tuesday. Major League Baseball, however, has not announced any decision.
Ramirez, the leading vote-getter in fan balloting, didn’t talk to reporters after the game. He has had a sore knee for much of the season, but has played in 77 of his team’s 81 games.
The Spin: One has to wonder if Manny’s “sore knee” is similar to the injury of another Martinez - former teammate Pedro - whose “sore hip” is believed by many to be little more than a convenient excuse to not play in the All-Star Game and get a little vacation. Regardless, it’s not as if the mighty American League needs him to beat up on kid brother National League.

Who can blame him if he doesn’t want to play? You can even call it an honor anymore when Mark Redman makes it in. I’d rather take the vacation too.

Manny Ramirez is being replaced in the All-Star game by the Detroit Tigers’ Magglio Ordonez.
