Jose Canseco sucks at pitching

We’re not sure whatever gave anyone the idea that Jose Canseco could pitch, much less start in an actual professional game, but he certainly didn’t do anything to re-enforce that opinion last night. Canseco lasted 4 1/3 innings in his starting pitching debut with the Long Beach Armada, beaning 4 batters, walking 5, giving up a home run, and striking out just one in an eventual 8-2 loss.
Actually, we are shocked that he gave up a home run, as that would indicate that at least one of his pitches was hitable.
But the funniest part of the story isn’t the walks and hit batters; it’s not even the fact that he’s an even worse batter (.169 with four home runs and nine RBIs in 21 games). It’s that he’s actually getting another chance to pitch Sunday.
“I take it serious out there when I’m in the game. I try to do the best possible. I’d love to throw a shutout or no-hitter or whatever. I’m a competitor.”
He might be a competitor, but he surely isn’t competitive.
