Johnny Damon slams back the Pedialyte

Johnny Damon

Johnny Damon had a different sort of pregame drink Sunday. The Yankees outfielder walked to his locker carrying a bottle of Pedialyte, a drink that helps hydrate a person and counteract vomiting and diarrhea.

Damon was also not in a chipper mood after learning he was out of Sunday’s starting lineup with “residual effects” from cramps in his right calf. The cramps forced him to leave Saturday’s game early.

On one hand, kudos to Johnny Damon for finding another performance-enhancer which, like HGH, probably doesn’t show up on drug tests (and helps avoid the embarassing side effect of floppy man boobs). On the other hand it’s doubtful that a children’s hydrating treatment offers much of an advantage. Maybe he needs a special cocktail including Flintstones Vitamins and Ovaltine. Someone call BALCO!
