Cory Lidle: Phillies didn’t always give their all

Cory Lidle

Cory Lidle, less than 24 hours removed from his Phillies career, chucked a Molotov cocktail into the Phillies’ clubhouse in a teleconference yesterday with New York reporters.

“I’m the kind of player that goes to the field every day expecting to win,” Lidle told New York reporters. “Unfortunately, the last few years, I haven’t had a clubhouse that expected to win with me. It was almost a coin flip to know if the guys behind me were going to be there to play 100 percent. I know that’s not going to be the deal here in New York.”That’s the reason I’m most excited to come over here. I think I’ll fit in well and be able to take my game to the next level.”

Heh heh heh…something tells us Lidle is in for a surprise. It might be refreshing to play with guys who expect to win, but let’s see how refreshing that cold water is when he realizes that the New York fans - the toughest in the world - and the New York Boss - Steinbrenner, the toughest in the world - have similar yet strangely different expectations.
