Abreu, Burrell would accept trade to any contender

The Dirt: Phillies players Bobby Abreu and Pat Burrell are denying reports that they would only be willing to waive their no-trade clauses if a deal can be made with either the Red Sox or Yankees.

Both Bobby Abreu and Pat Burrell yesterday denied a TV report that their agents informed the Phillies that they would waive their no-trade clauses only for trades to the Red Sox or Yankees. Both indicated that, if they waived the clause, they would be willing to be traded to other contenders, too.

The Spin: Things are pretty wide open - that is to say, the Yankees and Red Sox aren’t the only top contenders. So if they are really for real about this, there are certainly plenty of trade options for the Phillies.
